Zoals je vanuit de titel van de post kunt zien, wordt dit geen overdreven positieve post. Men zou kunnen zeggen dat het bijna niet uitmaakt van welke kussenstichting mijn eerste slachtoffer keuze was, maar het is net zo gebeurd dat er een is die niet bekend is:
De Donginbi Red Ginseng Radiance Kussen BB SPF 50 PA +++ in # 23 Kalm Beige. Deze compacte kost mij $ 45 en omvat de zaak, een spons van de applicator en 2 kussenvullingen (elk op 18 ml). Ik heb dit afgelopen jaar gekocht tijdens een K-Beauty-trek. Ik gebruik dit kussen compact in en uit voor de afgelopen 5 maanden – ik ga dit product gebruiken als een referentie, maar mijn rant is voor het algemene concept van kussencompact.
Kussen Compact Foundation was het “het” ding van Koreaanse schoonheid trends die waarschijnlijk eind vorig jaar piekt. Zoals alle dingen Aziatische schoonheid, zie ik eerst de trend die golven in hun lokale markten maakt, en vervolgens migreren naar westerse markten (in de originele merken / vorm), en vervolgens de westerse markten aanpassen als hun eigen (reïncarnaties onder Western-merken). Zie: BB crème, slaapmaskers, verloop lippen, enz.
Toen ik voor het eerst hoorde over vloeibare fundamenten die in een compact zijn gehuisvest, dacht ik: er is toch meer dan een spons gedrenkt in Foundation? Er moet iets speciaals zijn aan het bezorgsysteem en / of de formule? Het blijkt nee! Er is niets over de spons of de formule die kussen compacte fundamenten iets unieks maakt.
Laten we dit ontleden. De meeste kussencompact volgen dit formaat. De compacte zelf is redelijk standaard – het is een enigszins omvangrijke plastic behuizing met een bodemcompartiment voor de stichting-doordekte spons en een deksel van topcompartiment dat zwaait om de aangebrachte sponsapplicator te huisvesten en de spons uitdrogen. Het spons / “kussen” -gedeelte dat wordt gebruikt om de stichting te laten weken, is uw reinigingspons van de tuinverscheidenheid:
De meeste kussencompact zijn navulbaar met een systeem van de cartridge-type, wat betekent dat het in eerste instantie een hogere investering is, maar goedkoper op de lange termijn als u besluit bij een bepaald merk / systeem te blijven (sommige merken kunnen worden verwisseld, ik heb geleerd).
Het Donginbi-case-ontwerp is aan de boorzijde – de meeste merken hebben geleerd dat om nog meer van uw geld te grijpen, alles wat ze moeten doen, is Limited Edition / Samenwerking Compacte ontwerpen vrijgeven!

Ik kocht bijna een Gudetama-kussen compact uit Holika Holika toen ik eerder dit jaar uit de winkel trok, maar ik wist dat ik het alleen voor het schattige ontwerp zou kopen. Ik bedoel, wie koopt make-up gewoon om te verzamelen? Xd
Ik vind het hele idee om vloeibare stichting ingebed in een spons behoorlijk onhygiënisch. Ik bewaar de meegeleverde applicator in het compacte nadat het is gebruikt – ik was het na elk gebruik en sla het alleen op in het bovenste compartiment nadat de gereinigde spons droog zijn. Er is niets te doen met de stichting-doordrenkte spons, omdat je het niet erg goed kunt wassen.
Ik heb ook de stichting getest met behulp van een gedempte schoonheidsspons (de quo-spons wordt getoond) en ik geef eigenlijk de voorkeur aan die applicatiemethode beter – het biedt een meer gelijkmatige en soepele aanvraag. Ik vond dat degene is inclusief een streaky finish. Maar stel je voor, ik stuiteer een spons op een andere spons om het product op te halen – het is zo dom!
Ik denk ook dat het idee van een Cushion Compact Foundation de indruk geeft dat het super snelle toepassing is – Nee, het moet nog steeds worden toegepast en gemengd net als elke andere stichting / BB-crème.

De finish van deze stichting is behoorlijk bedauwd, wat ik heb geleerd, is het geval met de meeste fundamenten van het kussentype. De dekking is een bebouwd medium en heeft een SPF van 50 (zoals bij de meeste BB-crèmes, de SPF is fantastisch). For me, this is more of a winter foundation – during the cold dry weather, it does not settle into fine lines or cling to dry patches. There’s no oil control so if you’re oily or combination skin, you’re out of luck.

You’re also out of luck if your skin tone is anything darker than NC25. similar to BB creams, since the majority of brands offering cushion foundations originate from Korea, they mainly focus on shades ranges common to the Korean population. The #23 Calm beige shade I got is the darkest colour this is offered (the other being #21 bright beige which is more pink toned). but here’s where having the Western brands pick up on this trend comes in handy. lots of Western brands now offer cushion compact foundations, including MAC, Estee Lauder, Clinique. L’Oreal, Maybelline, etc. – their shade range offering is much wider.

Once a product reaches peak maturity level, what do brands do? Line extensions, of course! now we have cushion blushes, cushion highlighters, cushion bronzers, cushion correctors, and even cushion eye shadows. Ernstig?!!
That dripping image disturbs me.
There is NO reason why a bronzer or a highlighter or a blush needs to come soaked in a sponge! but dang, that packaging is so CUTE.
I honestly don’t understand why someone felt that liquid makeup needs to be stored in a sponge? just imagine pouring foundation into a shallow container, sticking a sponge inside. remember those old-school damper sponge things to help secretaries count stacks of paper / money?

Just fill that with foundation instead of water!
The only benefit is that a compact is slightly more portable compared to traditional foundation bottle / tube. but you can’t tell me it saves that much space:

I suppose the cushion compact is spill-proof, but I’ve never had any leaking mishaps with any of my foundation bottles / tubes.
Another argument I hear often for cushion compact is that it’s so handy for the purse. who is routinely touching up their makeup during the day with liquid foundation? most people blot and touch up with powder.

Lastly, has anyone noticed how little product you actually get in a cushion compact? Mine was decent at 18ml per sponge (most are 15ml or less) but compare that to the typical foundation amount which is 30ml. And, one can never truly use up all of product since a large portion is trapped inside the sponge (unless you’re super frugal and wring out the sponge!) At least with a bottle of foundation, you can squeeze or pump out most of the product inside. This is why brands are so “generous” in usually providing 2 sponges with every starter set of a cushion compact system.
I also found that the foundation tended to settled into the bottom of the cushion sponge fairly quickly, with the surface of the sponge nearly dry to the touch.
So I had to actually flip the sponge over after the tenth time I used the cushion compact. Which is as messy as you’d imagine – grab that foundation-soaked sponge with your (clean) fingers…
…and smoosh it back into place.
The cushion compact foundation trend reminds me a lot of the “airbrush makeup” trend a few years ago.
They weren’t airbrush makeup in the true sense of using a compressed air gun, but rather, aerosol cans dispensing a fine mist of foundation. That sounds wonderful, right? but it wasn’t like you sprayed it onto your face and called it a day, you still need to blend it and apply it like any other foundation. In fact, with the aerosol foundation, I preferred spraying it onto my hand and then using a brush to apply to my face, rather than spraying directly to my face. The delivery system didn’t make one lick of difference. What was the point of the aerosol can at all? and so I ask this: what is the point of the sponge in a cushion compact?!

• Unsanitary delivery system
• limited colour range (non-Western brands)
• suitable for limited skin types
• less product than typical foundation
• Can’t use up the product entirely (wasteful)
Bottom line: Gimmicky!
I get ranty about trends / fads that just don’t make any practical sense. But, I still try it for the sake of exploration and the experience. Don’t just listen to me rant, read Hoe.Hoi.Peng’s post on the subject.
Wat zeg je? Are you a fan of cushion compact foundations? Needless to say, I’m not likely going to buy another cushion compact foundation any time soon. If I want a foundation or a BB cream, I’ll just buy them in the traditional formats.
